    Today is , but we need to start appreciating our teachers every day. That means better pay, restoring their collective bargaining rights and making sure they don't have to pay money out of their own pockets to pay for supplies for their classrooms.

    Saturday I was in Detroit for Race for the Cure. As a scientist, I applaud the work done by foundations that help to raise money to advance medicine to a point where cancer mortality rates are down 25% since 1991. It was great to see so many coming together for a great cause!

    Flint needs clean water. Period. It needs the bottled water system back up and running, and the pipes to be replaced as soon as possible. We must do all we can to assure not one more Michigander is poisoned. .

    We simply can't afford a spill in the Straits. Enbridge has already violated its easement agreement with the state a multitude of times. Line 5 needs to be shut down immediately.

    In 2016, over 11 million scripts for opioids were filled in . The state's population is only 9.9 million. That math doesn't work for me. We need to make sure pain-management alternatives for opioids, such as marijuana, are readily available.
