When the history of China rise to global power is written, today may mark a milestone not only for its landing on far side of the Moon, but also it now reportedly having beaten US in technological race to deploy the potentially game changing naval rail gunhttps://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6550941/Hypersonic-superweapon-capable-firing-bullets-200-kilometres-spotted-Chinese-warship.html …

Indeed, and as here I commented on this week’s @RT_sputnik: With military, economic & political power shifting towards the East, the US response is seemingly to lash out in a desperate doomed attempt to stop that shift, rather than constructively manage ithttps://twitter.com/rt_sputnik/status/1078719732864438272 …

The balance of power -economic, military & political- is without any doubt moving towards the East. China is as sophisticated as the U.S. Military and they did it in a decade; which makes me ponder who sold them our military specs and technology that we have been working on since the Cold War? We know for sure China donated money to Bill Clinton in 1996 knows as ChinaGate.

You could be right - as with all major countries, industrial and scientific espionage may well have played a part. Although as today’s lunar achievement once again shows, the days when all China could do is to cheaply imitate the ideas and products of others are now long over.

Was reported at the time Clinton sold china satellite technology that allowed them to perfect the guidance system of their ICBM. The other things they have are espionage of the highest order, reverse engineering. Their laws demanding companies reveal patent secrets is crucial

Unless an elaborate propaganda hoax, there doesn’t appear to be much point in deploying a weapon unless it’s at least sufficiently functional for testing at sea rather than on a range or in a lab. Although I’ve also said ‘reportedly’, in case the reports do turn out to be untrue.

It would seem an unusual posturing move by China, but it's hard to know what is propoganda and what's not these days. It's what makes @PiersRobinson1 and others work so important.

Charles, you may well be mistaken. The US has deployable railguns, but they degrade the barrel so hard that they last about 300 cycles and have to be replaced. they’ve chosen not to deploy them. No evidence the PRC is ahead.

Thanks for this Michael, although if so it would be the report that’s mistaken rather than me. Having said this, as China appears to have deployed the gun to a naval test bed whereas US still hasn’t, this may suggest China hasn’t experienced or has solved the problems you mention

Charles, this explains the problems the US has. They can only get 400 shots (and at lower energy) out of a barrel, & don’t consider that deployable by their standards.https://www.quora.com/What-are-the-complications-the-US-Navy-is-facing-in-the-development-of-the-railgun/answer/Scott-Hanson-5 …

If they really want to, they could deploy it, at least for shorter ranges.
