I'm all for having good faith discussions about the role of Chinese policy in global internet governance and free expression. What U.S. tech executives are doing is NOT THAT.

But U.S. politicians, like American tech bosses, engage in fearmongering about Chinese tech so often that it’s hard to know when to believe them. This is all a disservice to the American public. All of it.

Thank you for making this point. If American tech giants are regulated, it will mean a return to real American tech innovation, which has become completely moribund under monopoly rule and the VC casino economy

NY Times? I just had to quit reading. Tik Tok is a propoganda machine as well a threat to children. I know. I worked a bit with a similar app as a administrator on a former Chinese based app not unlike TikTok. They're terryfying people.
