"money won't make you happy" Statistically the happiest people make $80,000 a year. Money absolutely makes you happy because financial stability means little uncertainty in life. It's deficit or excess that makes people unhappy.

lol I run out of steam on the second level. but then, I threw in a well-paying career for a studentship, so might be very atypical in that regard. Money never meant a lot to me and certainly never made me happy. We'll see if not having it has the opposite effect.
-
not having money is probably also a completely different experience when it's a sacrifice you chose to make vs something you never had any choice over, though you probably know this already

I sort of agree, but Maslow's hierarchy is flexible. You can still be hitting self actualization even if some of the layers below it aren't being 100% fulfilled.

Although I'd argue against esteem needing money, income would provide more free time and resources to grow said esteem. Like every situation, having money helps.

No way. First two at absolute most require money. You don't need money to form friendships with people, feel happy with yourself and what you're accomplishing or working towards, or to figure out what makes your life worth living. Money CAN help with these, but that's it.

Well even then I only have a dollar in my wallet and my self esteem is just fine. It's probably a little different being a teenager though I'm sure

Money only helps with the bottom two. If it helped with the rest, rich people wouldn't have depression.

Just because something helps doesn’t mean its solely sufficient.

In a consumerist society, most people are programmed to believe that their worth is tied to how much they produce, which they're also programmed to believe is tied to your material possessions.
