Happy to meet with the New York State Network for Youth Success yesterday and to attend their Afterschool rally. What a treat to talk to these kids and hear their stories about the benefits of Afterschool!
–– allowing New York providers to be a resource for Americans who have had their rights stripped away. We will not forego or forget our sisters across state lines. (2/2)
Proud my bill S.1066A has passed the Senate, just days after what should have been the 50th anniversary of the landmark decision of Roe v. Wade. This legislation will protect reproductive health services providers by safeguarding them against any out-of-state interference (1/2)

Proud to sponsor this bill, which will strengthen New York’s role as a nation-wide leader in reproductive rights, creating new avenues for those who live in states with severe abortion restrictions.
Tragic loss of life in last night’s plane crash near Westchester County Airport. My deepest condolences to the families of those who died. May their memories be a blessing.

Statement by Senator Shelley Mayer on her “No” Vote Yesterday in the Judiciary Committee on the Nomination of Justice Hector LaSalle as Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals
Unfortunately I will not be able to participate in today’s Judiciary hearing because I have COVID. However because this issue is so important to me and the State as a whole, I drove to Albany to check in so I can vote at the conclusion of the hearing.
for carrying this bill in the Assembly, my colleagues in the Senate who co-sponsor, and the providers, advocates and legal experts who were instrumental in crafting this legislation. (3/3)

Proud my bill, S1066, has passed the Senate Committee on Health.
This legislation honors my commitment to work with my colleagues to protect the right to abortion for New Yorkers and all those from other states who seek licensed medical providers here. (1/3)
As we honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., we recognize that we have fallen short of achieving his vision of social and economic justice for all. Today and every day, we recommit ourselves to working to make his vision a reality. #MLKDay
Pleased to join Save the Sound and Assemblyman Steve Otis for a panel discussion on what you can expect from this Legislative Session. It is great getting to answer constituent questions on the legislative process and how you can get involved.
. They have risked their lives throughout the pandemic to help others, and continue to do so while working long hours and being understaffed. We support you.
In addition, my bill S612, which also passed the Senate today, will eliminate the risk of conflicts of interest that arise when Board of Elections’ employees also run for office or work for a candidate or company involved in election administration.
First, S611, which I am speaking about here, would require Commissioners of County Boards of Elections to be full time employees of the Board, reducing the possibility of conflicts and ensuring that there is full attention to the operations of every election.
Proud two of my bills were a part of the Election Reform package to expand voting rights and reform the election system. It is essential to the integrity of the democratic process that free and fair elections are protected in New York State, as well as the United States.
Proud to have the opportunity to preside over the Senate yesterday in this session’s first reading of the controversial calendar.

In an economic climate where many New Yorkers struggle to keep the lights on, stay warm, and keep food on their table, it is disappointing that ConEd is unwilling to take this nominal step to ensure basic necessities for their customers.
Today, I along with 27 of my Senate Colleagues, called on the New York Public Service Commission to direct Consolidated Edison to suspend the collection of late payments. I am deeply disappointed in ConEd’s decision not to suspend the collection of late fees this winter season.
I was glad to tour Allied Converters Inc., a zero-emissions manufacturing factory in New Rochelle, and meet with John Ravitz, Executive VP of the Business Council of Westchester and Richard Ellenbogen, president of Allied Converters, Inc. (1/2)
Among my new staff for the 2023 session is Michael Cecil, J.D., LL.M, my Legislative Counsel. I was touched that Michael’s 92 year-old grandmother made sure he wore his late grandfather’s tie clip, which was given to him as a Christmas gift by his grandmother.
