Rumors about McGiffert in the 1990s abounded – heck, he published colonial sex ‘jokes’ in the WMQ. How many other scholars were negatively impacted by McGiffert’s seemingly unchecked power? IMO, too many powerful people did not prevent further harm. 2/x

Lisa did everything right. Yet
@AHAhistorians let her down.@OIEAHC let her down. I watched him demean women scholars (myself included) repeatedly. Resist publishing their work. We must do better. No gag orders. No more excuses.#TimesUp 3/xNäytä tämä ketju -
I've had the privilege of watching Lisa's strength and persistence in making this public. Too many of us have yet to come to terms with the fact that colleagues we like/respect/treat us well were complicit. This. Was. Systemic. That's the challenge for real change. 4/x

All of us in the early Am and academic communities owe Lisa a debt of gratitude for her determination to challenge the systems that allowed McGiffert to repeatedly use his professional power to sexually harass and discriminate. I hope we repay her bravery with real change. 5/x

Thanks for sharing this Sharon. And to Lisa and the OI for coming forth and acting. Still seems a long way to go at times. But this helps.
Kiitos. Käytämme tätä aikajanasi parantamiseen. KumoaKumoa
