...as should all sources of information anymore tbh ...where do you go for the "facts"?

Me? I try to go to original sources I have who have proven accurate in the past, I try to view as much original source material as I'm able: the entire quote, context, news conference, meeting, etc. I believe little of what is reported initially on most anything--

...thanks for the heads up :)

When I was teaching, I told all my students that Wikipedia was not a source. It could lead you to a source, but never list it as one.

The same is true of Snopes.

No serious thought or scholarship should rely on or quote Wikipedia. Period

You are absolutely correct and unless you are an honest expert in a particular field you would never notice It is not over dramatic to say those white washers of facts are as diabolical as they are very bad people

Very well-said. I wish more people would realize this.

Their math pages are also pretty solid. Unfortunately, anything on there that can be politicized, is politicized.

Wikipedia is not a reliable source, only a consensus of opinion.

Whenever someone I've asked to cite their proof gives me a wikicrapia link, I let them know I've won and walk away.

Indeed. Wikipedia may not be cited in serious scholarly works on controversial areas, alas, due to our human weaknesses. A great pity and a sad reality.

Good for other things too. Basic facts about states, cities, countries. Want something in depth? Go somewhere else. Want just some basic information? Wikipedia is probably fine. Much like any encyclopedia.
-
Also, very surface level biographical or historical facts are fine. Dates, that sort of thing. Even for certain controversial historical things, like Iran Contra. It would not be good as an depth source at all. But not a bad place to start necessarily.

When I was in college, more than one instructor said that Wikipedia is NOT a research source and would fail your paper for using a Wikipedia source! It is edited to meet a political pejorative rather than being factually accurate!

Wikipedia is not allowing women to have a say in trans related issues and definitions that we dispute. this lead to the illusion that women who have real concerns about our identity begin redefined as nothing but TERFspic.twitter.com/6QLLRzs0Yw
