It's like health care: as long as govt provides support so these exorbitant costs can be met, (loans etc) they keep inflating wildly beyond the actual value. http://fullmeasure.news/news/cover-story/degree-of-debt …https://twitter.com/greta/status/988016901447213056 …

Reminds me of when health coverage from employers was a relatively inexpensive perk until the health industry started jacking up costs. The higher education industry seems to have taken a lesson from health care. As long as someone else is paying, who cares kind of attitude

Government got involved in home loans, prices skyrocketed. Government has been involved in health care with Medicaid & Medicare & health care costs have skyrocketed. Government is backing student loans & providing grants & the cost of education is skyrocketing. See a pattern?

It’s an absolute scandal that doesn’t get enough attention. For Decades, @usedgov made increasing college ENROLLMENT not graduation its mission. Bullying kids into taking loans and going to schools they weren’t prepared for. It’s simply a money laundering scheme for the DNC.

In addition to its tuition restraint policy, the university has worked to help reduce student debt. These efforts have led to 59 percent of Purdue West Lafayette undergraduates graduating debt-free in the 2016-17 academic year, the highest figure on record

When my kids were born, I looked into saving for their education. One cannot live and save enough money for college when the college costs grow 3x the rate of inflation. No private sector company could raise its expenses at this rate and still stay in business.

It is more than costs. For the past 20 years, the government and media have been promoting college for everyone. So colleges get more per student...and more students (including those who should have gone into apprenticeships or learned trades in high school

Government subsidization enables industry to inflate costs. They know its backed up so they can charge more. What would it cost for education loans to be forgiven, at least half of what is owed? It would be so beneficial to the economy!

It's crazy - I have a freshman in college and as a divorced dad with a 2nd family there is only so much I can do to help him. The debt he'll have graduating will be staggering - I'm hoping his engineering degree goes well so at least he'll have a path to paying it off.
