. @SharylAttkisson on the unauthorized herpes vaccine trial this weekend should be interesting. The vaccine didn’t work for the majority and caused injury to others. Results were fabricated. Unfortunately, those people are not wanting to talk anymore. Beware! #fda

Nothing Sharyl writes is interesting to me since she went antivax and joined a right wing propaganda outfit, Sinclair. If you want objective info about the unethical, unapproved trial, see e.g. https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/offshore-herpes-vaccine-trial-under-investigation/ … https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/university-was-tipped-off-to-possible-unauthorized-trials-of-herpes-vaccine/ …https://khn.org/news/university-under-fire-for-off-the-grid-herpes-vaccine-experiments/ …

The #AllOrNothing mentality isn't helpful. Not all medicines are safe for all people at all times for all reasons. Not all medicines are dangerous for all people at all times. The truth is in between and an individual calculus that can be difficult.

Who claims that? The FDA, when it approves medicines, also says which people should not take the medicine, i.e. who the medicine is contraindicated for.

Who claims not all medicines are safe for all people at all times for all reasons? Anybody who isn't completely ignorant. If you're allergic to penicillin, you shouldn't take it. Do you disagree?

Sigh. I was of course asking "who claims that all medicines are safe for all people at all times?" Mainstream medicine is careful to note contraindications like the one you just mentioned. It sounds like you're claiming they don't.

*sigh* There were multiple comments and I am not a mind reader. No, I certainly never claimed there are no contraindications noted!pic.twitter.com/ITTZOWV8Qm

By spreading the "mainstream medicine claims one size fits all" idea, you are indeed claiming that mainstream medicine doesn't note contraindications (or doesn't note enough of them).

There you go again! Please read. I never said anything such thing. First I never discussed one size fits all (I said "all or nothing mentality.") Second, I didn't say mainstream medicine was guilty of that nor did I even use that phrase. Third...

Sure you did. You said 'the government continues to frame the conversation in all-or-nothing, "one-size-fits-all" terms' inhttps://www.cbsnews.com/news/the-open-question-on-vaccines-and-autism/ …

OMG you are cracking me up. We were talking about this twitter exchange but you are going back to 2008. Ok! You're still incorrect. I didn't say "mainstream medicine claims one size fits all." Please reread the 2008 article again and Dr. Healy's guidance. It's still good today.

Since back then, strong evidence has been found for prenatal causes, e.g. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/29346770  implicates a number of mutations, and suggests a mechanism for how valproic acid causes ASD. It's an exciting time - we're actually learning a lot about the causes of autism!

I think you're right - it's the "whodunnit? Who's the bad guy? Quick, find someone to blame!" perspective vs. the "Let's do the careful science to find the causes of autism, no matter how long it takes" perspective.
