I'm a retired police detective, worked five years with an FBI task force, agents were not allowed to sit in on our interviews/interrogations without permission from the AUSA because us cops always recorded (audio/video), they would encourage us not to record but we still did.

So what is the good reason for that, and is that the rule.
-
I'm not sure, we all thought it was them not wanting to change with the times--we started recording in the late 80s and by the mid-90s it was mandatory. I had an FBI agent sitting in, on my interviews but was not allowed to talk--just observed because I was recording.
-
One of the thing that the Mateen widows jurors noted was that the FBI agents notes of interrogation didn’t agree and there was no recording to back it up

FBI has access to the latest technology in law enforcement but is still stuck in the past with their refusal to use something so basic as recording devices to document what actually transpires during an interrogation--meanwhile, street cops are now using body cameras.
-
Was starting to do my research for an article on why FBI agents don't record their interviews and didn't realize the policy had changed from the time I worked as a temporary field agent with them--must be a selective policy

The IG doesn’t always record an interview, unless the case is a “Priority” involving a high profile individual. The time and expense to transcribe an interview is prohibitive.
-
Maybe that used to be true (about time and expense). It's simply not true today. There's now software that can allow IG or anybody to professionally transcribe a half hour interview, for example, in just a few mintutes and for a few dollars. (We use it). That's just not true. 1/2

Because using modern technology would make it harder for the
@FBIWFO to falsify their 302s & other reports. The use of these archaic methods of recording investigations & administrative events speaks it's own condemnation. The FBI is corrupt, top to bottomThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

They can't go back and alter their notes if it's recorded. Isn't that what the FISA abusers are accused of doing?

It's more difficult to trump up charges if there is evidence. The FBI prosecutes with the corroborated statements of two FBI agents present at the same time. This arrangement facilitates corruption

Cause then “the truth” or at least the lies will be recorded. Can’t have that from the FBI. CULPABLE DENIABILITY.

To me, with a smattering of investigating, hand written form 302 are anathema. Why, when accurate audio and video recording is everywhere, would anyone trust hand written notes of an interview, or interrogation? It's easily manipulated, as shown lately.
