1 Here's the text of Sinclair's promo that Sinclair's competitors and left-wing interests have created a fuss over. (This one for KOMO in Seattle). Let me know what you think about what it says: "Our greatest responsibility is to serve our Northwest communities...." (continued)

Maybe they should have just run a prerecorded 20 second spot on all the stations with that same message? Perhaps it comes across as a little underhanded having all the different anchors saying the same thing. The message itself doesn't bother me.
-
perhaps. understanding a bit about the industry at local and national level, the point of local promos is for the community to know and trust their anchors so they do their own promos. that's how it's always been. a little history here: https://sharylattkisson.com/2018/04/04/youve-been-hoodwinked-perhaps/ …
-
The local viewers expect that not only should their local station do their own promos but they should write their own promos and actually believe the message tailored to their area. To do otherwise is a scam and why Sinclair is being called out. has nothing to do with left/right
-
Scam? Hm. Interesting thought. My thought: According to CNN: :The liberal consumer watchdog group Allied Progress is making what it calls a "six-figure ad buy" to condemn Sinclair. "Tell the FCC to stop the Sinclair merger," the ad says." That says what this is really all about.
-
both sides used it: Fox News host told BuzzFeed News. “I've never been told a single time what to say.” Another network insider said the comparison between Sinclair and Fox News was “ludicrous” and that Sinclair anchors in the video “looked like hostage victims.”

Sheryl- I love your stuff but I feel that, in this case Sinclair is creating a situation where “if all think alike not much thinking is going on.” These “independent” local stations are forced into spouting a corporate mantra which doesn’t allow for any original thought.
-
We disagree, which is ok. I think this particular corporate mantra should be the starting point for any news organization: fair, accurate reporting that is checked twice and neither left nor right. Original thought that falls outside of that should not be welcomed.

I don't see anything wrong with the message. It doesn't point fingers or name names, so there's that. I will admit, when I saw the "collage" it was a bit ... odd to me.
-
Yes it does seem odd and entertaining when edited this way. This could be done with any network stories and promos on local stations, as I discuss in my article here: https://sharylattkisson.com/2018/04/04/youve-been-hoodwinked-perhaps/ …

My personal theory is that the cable nets, papers, and large online outlets are freaking out about Sinclair because the sheer number of local stations involved means that Sinclair can make its' own de facto network, and with a bit of investment, a real one.

I'm more concerned about Media Matters and what they are up to. What's your opinion on this?

Nothing in the promo is in any way inaccurate, IMO. Apparently, and ironically, those who have attacked and condemned Sinclair haven't gotten their facts together, are parroting false claims, and are unwittingly confirming that the criticism contained in the promo is justified.
