It is a great question, but please know that the gas tax has not been raised since 1993. Things cost more now than 25 yrs ago!

I know, it's just hard to feel good about sending more $ to a pot that Congress can dip from and that gets spent inefficiently. If every dime really went towards efficient infrastructure improvement we'd all be happy!

Very sensible, I'm glad you shine a light on inefficiency & waste. Also good to remind folks what they pay for potable water, sewer, roads is typ a fraction of mobile/cable.

Maybe add this to list of questions. As I recall many many years ago we were told toll road tolls would not be charging tolls after roads paid for. Of course no sane person would believe. But if tolls built roads, now can’t even pay for upkeep?

I drive a lot. These arguments seem to affect high density urban areas more so than those of us in rural areas, and that issue also needs to be addressed. I'm likely driving on dirt as a high speed freeway. I don't like the idea that the benefits only apply to urban areas.

I hope they can find another way. Gas tax is hard for working people and poor.

"Diverted"? You mean like they did with the Social Security (SS) trust fund overage created by the increased (SS) withholding tax put in place under Reagan to prepare the trust for future retiring Baby Boomers? That kind of diverted?

Congress was, is, and I suspect will always be unable to manage our money responsibly. They acquire it too easily

Here in Washington State it costs $1,100/linear ft to build roads. Hello that’s $5.8 million per mile. Like Sharyl says by the time everyone’s toast is buttered from the top down little money left for the road.

I’m still wondering what happened to the money for infrastructure (shovel ready jobs) that passed in 2009!
