My back MRI was $525. But only after I was offered the chance to do my own “MD to MD” pre-auth to get it approved:https://www.nytimes.com/2016/07/03/opinion/sunday/the-illicit-perks-of-the-md-club.html …

#DirectPrimaryCare is the patient centered low cost and transparent way to provide family medical care. Unlimited visits for $50-75 a month including phone visits, video visits and texting or emailing your doc. No Co-pays ever.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

This is how it used to be done. Insurance has become a political tool, but they renamed it 'Health Care'. It used to be for tragic things, just like all other insurance. now it is needed just to get a checkup. Try to get major surgery done by paying cash. They don't know how.

Most people will find a way around totalitarian policies of a government. Particularly Americans.

Used to be that individual State Governments offered "High-Risk" Health Insurance to the uninsurable. This system worked well, but was destroyed by Obamacare. These should have been the "mandatory" coverage for the uninsured. And could be again. Read: http://www.commonwealthfund.org/usr_doc/achman_uninsurable_472.pdf …

My Dr does cash price since she doesn't take Obamacare. It's horrible and way to costly for nothing.

Yup. I’ve paid my doc out of pocket for years at a big discount. So do most of his patients.

Time was, and not so long ago, the smart strategy was to buy an affordable catastrophic policy and then pay all office visits out of pocket. 99% of Americans would save money. Hope to return to that level of sanity.

American ingenuity will outsmart the brain dead bureaucrats every time. Until the bureaucrats figure out whats going on and confiscate the next wave of medical entrepreneurs.

My doctor took cash when I didn’t have insurance. It was so much cheaper on the doctor and for me.

I pay out of pocket to my Dr.'s and they send the Super Bill to my insurance. I get a a portion back (about half) from insurance company. Beverly Hills, Santa Monica Dr.'s do this a lot. They call it "Boutique Practices"

Do get discount for paying cash?
-
No I pay about $220 a visit

Restoration of the price function is the only way to stabilize and decrease healthcare costs. Health insurance costs would decrease simultaneously.

I pay as I go. Much better return on my health care dollars. Most doctors, etc., have a cash price which is much, much less than what they would charge insurance companies. My prescriptions are filled at Costco for about what the co-pay would be if I bought insurance.
