Carter Page reportedly assisted the FBI with the prosecution and conviction of a Russian spy a few years back. I suppose Page could have done all that with the FBI and then become a Russian spy himself. Maybe that's what they were looking for in the wiretaps. https://twitter.com/papas_kris/status/959938391487012864 …

Anybody who's met with top business leaders or officials in Russia has likely encountered Russian "operatives" whether they know it or not. Not defending spying, of course. Just saying contacts themselves are constitutionally protected activities.

I have read a lot of articles that imply there's something inherently nefarious about going to Russia, meeting with Russians, doing business in Russia--as millions of Americans do.

Page lived in Russia a few years back working for Merrill Lynch and was interested in Russian energy investments. Russian energy companies are majority owned by government=Putin. But the thousands of US investors and businessmen in this arena aren't necessarily Russian spies.

These people ruthless. They've shown that they are willing to destroy the life and reputation of anyone who gets in their way or if it helps them in any way to do so.

Approval of a FISA application requires the court find probable cause that the target of the surveillance be a "foreign power" or an "agent of a foreign power", and that the places at which surveillance is requested is used or will be used by that foreign power or its agent.
