Thanks for coming on @sashachavkin ! I think America wants to be hopeful-- though nobody yet knows what the real effect will be. Corporations always find ways to do what benefits their bottom $ (which I guess is their job).https://twitter.com/sashachavkin/status/952560415019622401 …

Thank you to @SharylAttkisson @FullMeasureNews for having me on to discuss #paradisepapers. But the segment pushed the view that the GOP tax bill will end offshore tax avoidance - when most experts say it will do the opposite (thread) http://fullmeasure.news/news/politics/no-more-offshore …

Thanks for the note Sharyl. I'd like to be hopeful too, but we've seen this movie before - giving tax cuts to reward companies to bring home offshore $$ leads them to do it again and keeps the offshore system thriving

I don't know as much about it as you do, but what about the idea that the status quo wasn't working? *and* what's a short version of a better solution? Obviously corporations (in my opinion) helped craft the tax bill...

One solution would be to crack down on secrecy by govts requiring companies to disclose the names of their real owners, so they can't hide behind shell corps. This is gaining momentum in the US:https://www.wsj.com/articles/banks-seek-government-help-to-track-money-laundering-1515493800 …

Another would be country-by-country reporting rules, which would require multinational corps to report profits (and pay taxes on them) in the same countries where they made the money

If you're willing, maybe we can have you on down the road to talk about what you wished had been included in the story, interesting (to me) that there are some alternatives... ones that may be difficult to get on the table knowing how bills are crafted. I would do the interview.

The mid-term elections in November will be the best gauge of success for the tax package---We'll have a better idea then.

A big reason no company may come back is Democrats going on news media saying if they get back in office they will take that MONEY back off of us . what company will come back for only 4 to 8 years ? None !! The Democrats don't give a shit about the people .

It is their job. It's the job of Gov't to strike a balance to support America. Looks like the tax bill is a great first step. This philosophy must be an ongoing theme now administration to administration. Companies see the waste of $$ on pallets or other. Balance!

Without the changes most all of the money would have been left off shore. The net benefit is positive to USA. It remains to be seen how positive the benefit.

Current and future business leaders have been taught that the profit motive is immoral, yet they must do it. This has, actually, left them bereft of any sense of honor as is evidenced by widespread crony capitalism produced by the so-called "public/private" partnership scams.
