I think schools already have their hands full teaching kids to be competent at reading/ writing/science. I'd also love kids to learn more about practical personal finance responsibility, saving, US/world history (with as little spin as possible).https://twitter.com/SharylAttkisson/status/949010444810932225 …

2/2 Teaching "media literacy" has same flaws as anti-fake news effort: it depends on who decides trustworthiness. From what I've seen so far, "media literacy" efforts teach that you can believe it if it's in the NYT, Wash Post, etc.: a strategy w/obvious weaknesses. https://twitter.com/igotthebestmojo/status/949009260112850944 …

I agree 100%. Kids should also be engaging in classical debate, doing their own research, and arguing both sides.

If they learn those things, plus a little critical thinking, the media literacy should take care of itself.

Why do schools have a hard time teaching our kids the basics? In rural America they’re too busy teaching Transgender/Gay/etc- which should be a parents job not a schools!

I just went to his feed. He is very interesting. I will be ordering his book. I hate the modern public school system. Homeschooling is a great option fir thise who can. Different style school, as well.

Teaching students to think critically and to understand media bias is a challenge. I spend a great deal of time with this. My jr. & sr. year Honors English teacher was amazing at it. Students never had a clue to her personal or political leanings. #GreatTeachers

Completely agree- all high school students should learn about finance and basic investment strategies. Also more practical skills such as how to change a flat tire and how to swim.

I had a great Econ teacher in HS; wish they'd have taught in in grade school as well. In Jr. HS, we had a unit on recognizing propaganda as well. Both served me well.

This is a major problem. My daughter’s US history teacher is teaching off curricula from http://RethinkingSchools.org  (a literal communist group.) Kids can’t use Fox News as a source because “only CNN, CBS, ABC and NBC are unbiased.” She’s a total SJW Bernie-is-too-conservative type.

You are so funny...do you really believe that schools are “teaching kids to be competent at reading/ writing/science”? If only they were teaching this rather than preaching dogma there might be a resurgence of critical thinking

The education system and a majority of its teachers are indoctrinating our youth. This needs to stop. They need to stop forcing their opinions and beliefs on our children and teach them verifiable facts...not what they believe to be true!
