Agreed. Much rather see Critical Thinking skills taught. (No- not "criticizing.")

Relying on predominantly Progressive teachers to make those distinctions? What could go wrong?

Better to teach kids to ask questions and debate on merits. “If you say X is true, what supports your point? How do I know your facts are true? What would make you change your opinion on this issue? Etc. “

“The case against science is straightforward: much of the scientific literature, perhaps half, may simply be untrue. Afflicted by studies with small sample sizes, tiny effects, invalid exploratory analyses, and flagrant conflicts of interest.” Dr. Richard Horton, Lancet editor

Teaching students to distinguish fact from opinion should be sufficient. I bet most states already include that in their curriculum. I know Texas does. More emphasis on that could be welcome, however.

For years, media literacy educators have emphasized "strong sense" critical thinking where students learn to subject all information to critical scrutiny, especially content that aligns with existing world views

What if existing world views are wrong? Are you teaching people to be sheep then?

#2 Media literacy also includes not being duped by advertising, news and social media. Don’t let the tail wag the dog. Always be in control and logical connections between ideas.

How do you know what is true and what is not? We should definitely teach media literacy, discerning truth seeking. What else is there to teach?
