I listen to friends and family who work in or with Federal government services and the duplication, redundancy, sloth and waste is striking and pisses you off to hear it.

Remember when Joe Biden was supposed to go line-by-line with a scalpel making sure our tax dollars were well-spent? Or was I dreaming? Sharyl, I wish you'd ask these D.C. denizens a question I've always wanted to ask pols - How much is a trillion? I don't believe they even know.

Exactly. Wasted. Gov gets more $ on gal of gas than ExxonMobil. Paid for years, but always hear we need $ for infrastructure???

An audit would probably reveal the gas tax is funding something else, say PP for example. In fact, what %age of gas taxes collected actually spent on infrastructure would be an interesting fact. I bet < 20%.

The American government wastes a lot of $, but the difference between this country and more corrupt ones is that the money is overspent on OT for gov workers or inefficient purchasing, etc. It does not end up in the President's Swiss bank account.

I would like someone to tell us all what government office, agency, Department, or organization that runs with efficiency? Or one that is not riddled with fraud, abuse, or waste?

This will be attacked by the Left as racist just they like go after voter ID. I agree it needs to be done but DC lacks any spine to get it done though. It would take an Amendment by the people to force their hand. Oh and throw term limits in there as well.

Wouldn't need a higher gas tax, just stop giving welfare to illegals.

I wish Trump could hire 2,000 auditors just to find all the waste in every single department and agency. It would be money well spent.

Just seeing what we already have, I’m guessing the actual amount of wasteful/unlawful spending is unfathomable to us.

Truman's first job with FDR as a Senator was to root corruption from Defense contracting. Often thought would love to see a no nonsense person not afraid of catching a bullet do same.

It is a mug's game to tease out the details of waste in a public forum. No one in Washington, gives a tinker's dam about spending, except to try to increase it at any cost. It may destroy the country, and sink the economy, but as long at they get a slice it is all tickety boo.

Government bureaucracy has expanded too much. Most agencies need to be cut by half at least, if not eliminated all together.

Sometimes think we would be ahead if we stopped all tax $ and voted for any and all, we think we need. I know that not how our republic works but damn, these guys are killing us!

I worked for the Feds in a dept you discuss often. We paid 200-250% premium for construction projects because of 8A contractors. 100$ a square foot for a concrete slab type prices! Same players in the 8A system for decades.

In '84 the Grace Commission reported $424 billion could be saved in 3 years, rising to $1.9 trillion per year by the year 2000. If we simply follow through with the findings we've already paid for, we could easily afford infrastructure spending.
