I would walk about 3/4 mile from school to my father's newspaper business to carry the papers from the folder to the address-o-graph machine to be addressed. I got 50 cents for an afternoon of work. I was about 12 years old. Good ol' days.

I will never forget the years when I was elated to make minimum wage, which was $4.90/hr. And even more memorable, the day I got a $.25/hr raise. $5.15/hr was unheard of amongst my peers!

I worked in a department store, and at the end of my second year there, I got a ten cent raise. I felt it was so unfair, it motivated me to find a better job.

My first job as a lifeguard I made $1.25 an hour. Worked very hard and loved when i got my first check for about $65. Felt good to earn my own money and get experience working in my teens. Could not get that job at same age now due to restrictive laws.

$4 a line? Nice! When I was in college, I sent stories to UPI and got $5 a pop. Ditto for the ones I pitched as a stringer for a TV station.
