College poverty taught us how to do without. That appears to be lost on most young people today.

I had about 5 shirts and 4 pairs of jeans. My wife had not much more than me. We cleaned houses, washed cars, painted houses, built fences etc... went in as freshmen and had masters degrees in 4 1/2 years. Her BS biology/ chemistry, MS microbiology. Me BA/BBA, MPA.

Sounds like white privilege to me. Lol congrats on all your accomplishments! You set a wonderful example

I lobe when people tell you what clothes you should wear, how you should have your hair fixed/cut, or what phone, headphones, computer, etc. that you “need”. I’m just fine & if I wear it I like it & my stuff is my darn business. I AM my money source! Lol

I grew 6 inches my freshman year with no $ to buy new pants. I was "that highwater guy".

No one that I knew had any money while we were in college. On those rare occasions that we did have a few
$s, 50cent tacos and $1 night @ the movies were our big nights out! Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Thank goodness 501s came into style when I was in college. They were cheap and lasted years. I couldn’t afford to get a hair cut. Eating at Skippers was a treat. Lol!

Full blown bell bottoms, or just flares? It took me a long time to warm up to straight leg jeans, I thought they were so 50s.

Approach sounds similar to some sales pitches I hear from “pros” followed by the appeal that they are providing this wonderful information to prospects as a favor, saying “Listen, I’m telling this to you as a friend.”

Today her effort at helping you would be labeled "white privilege." I chuckle whenever someone accuses me of it. It was a real privilege to have a working mother and no money. My straight hair made all that disappear. Sure.
