      Interesting. But-- for what little it's worth: #1 I don't think we should be doing stuff to its eye :( #2 They might want to reconsider the accuracy of their eye lens carbon dating methods. Just a thought. I'm no scientist.

          I don’t know. I prefer the idea of sharks with cataracts. Maybe they also have false teeth at that age?

          Seriously, those sharks already had fish and remorae attached to the eyeballs. At that age they are already blind. They feed by smell.

          It's a parasitic copepod which is found on about 90% of Greenland sharks' eyes. They use other senses to hunt since they are blinded by it.

          Thanks - the video wasn't clear, and I am not a marine biologist. But I do understand that you aren't really harming a blind animal by carbon-dating its cataracts.

          Don't worry. Sharks have horrible eyesight and don't really need it to hunt, especially old sharks. Their eyes are usually overrun by parasites and they're blind anyway.
