It was “pop” for me when I grew up in Illinois. (Also Andy Griffith show, which was supposed to be NC) When I moved to Oregon, I switched to “soda.

I always say, “Please bring me a tasty, carbonated beverage” and for some reason they always bring me beer. Might be my looks?pic.twitter.com/IX8ggpvjOg

It's Coke. Nobody orders a Jack & Pepsi or Jack & soda. I rest my case. :) (Is it 5 o'clock yet?)

can Mr. Pibb get some love?
-
Lol... is that a Dr Pepper rip off? How about RC-Cola in the south which is a rip off of Pepsi which is a rip off of Coke
-
Coke own Dr. Pepper, Pepsi owns Mr. Pibb, same goes for Mountain Dew and Mello Yello.

I’m southern (Florida) from northern parents and have always said “soda.” (FWIW)

You're right Sharyl. I am a life-long Louisianan and we used "coke" as a generic term for any "soft drink". You'd ask mom for a "coke" or at a fountain or stand & the reply was "What kind?". Also, in New Orleans, people said col' drink & in Cajun country many did say "pop" too.
-
Don’t know anyone in Lafayette, LA that says pop. It’s coke or soft drink.
-
My cousin lives in Layfayette & her mother was from Lockport. They said "pop" too. Also soft drink & coke. We're not talking about TODAY - we're saying how it was. As you know, Louisiana is a very diverse state. Sometimes a few miles make a huge difference in speech, etc. :-).
-
You got that right!
