It's a regional thing. If you get iced tea up north, it is typically not sweetened. In the south, it most always is.

I had a glass shatter once doing that. Learned my lesson, now I introduce the ice slowly into the hot tea.

Ha! When I moved from Lubbock to St. Louis, I asked for the same thing! They just didn’t understand my West Texas accent. I always had to repeat my order. They thought I wanted haced tee. H silent. I wanted Iced tea. “I” emphasized. :)

In CA, usually it's foo-foo tea (think raspberry or something like that). If you want real iced tea you must check.

I was in San Diego in October. I think McDonalds was the only place we found with sweet iced tea.

In the 70s my sister & I were eating in chain restaurant now defunct. It was ALL YOU CAN EAT TURKEY night. My sister ordered a chef's salad with turkey & ham & asked if she could have a double portion of turkey & no ham-Was told NO. I ordered more turkey she removed the ham/voila
