Govt. scientists: Influenza vaccination coverage among elderly persons (≥65 years) in the United States increased from between 15% and 20% before 1980 to 65% in 2001. Unexpectedly, estimates of influenza-related mortality in this age group also increased during this period.

Not really. I maintain >65 yr old population in these years explains increase in influenza mortality. Add in addition Comorbid conditions of a less healthy society

Ever heard of the “baby boomers”? More old people = higher mortality numbers. You failed earlier in logic (modus ponens/modus tollens). Now you’re failing basic statistics.

What was the unexpected rate of increased mortality in contrast to the significant increase of >65 yr population during this same period? May not be a truly significant and clarifying measure!

Annual flu vaccine is only a best guess at the prevalent strain in any year. Viruses mutate some ppl with weak immune systems do not become protected.
