At least in my family we've downplayed the gifts to one or two that are meaningful.
We also donate to a favorite charity in a family name. @PDJFund @trfinc we're horse lovers! @brooklyncowboy1

My parents took movies. 16mm, then 8mm. 1960s mostly. The joy of the presents for them was watching us open them. And we knew it, and reveled in knowing it made them so happy.

Seems like Christmas has become so commercialized that it's hard to even make a buck off of it anymore

That's why I prefer Thanksgiving. Family oriented. No presents. Focused on gratitude.

Your are totally correct with the presents. One should attempt to give to one in need via church-group/community outreach and not worry so much about presents. At least that's what I teach my kids.

@mattsnavely Learn to chill out for that day. Decorate the house. Plan a dinner for family/friends. Maybe not so much emphasis on "Santa" and the presents. Just chill. Don't worry, it's going to take a while to get the hang of it.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

I don't mind buying them for others. I just hate pretending I got something great when it's such a dumb gift. I'm not good at pretending.

Charlie Brown asked Snoopy that same question many years ago...

Best way to reclaim the tradition is for everyone to put their smart phones away and turn off the TV for a day or two and truly enjoy the company of their loved ones. Talk about what makes the season so special.

The fun thing about watching old movies, vintage television & radio is that people said same thing 50-60-70 years ago. Remember A Charlie Brown Christmas? Miracle on 34th Street? Lots of old TV shows when white trees and gold light bulbs 1st became popular? Nothing's changed. :-)

I'm older too but I miss those old days of buying presents and enjoying the holidays. These days since 2008 it's been a drag. No one has money and everyone is ticked off. I want to

My 4 year old granddaughter saved it for my wife and I. We're kids again watching her this year. Merry Christmas indeed.

Because it’s so hard to find the material things that move the needle for us. Plus, we’ve already bought it if we really want it.

We used to publicly discuss Jesus Christ, the reason for Christmas, as part of the season. Now? People eat the vapors at the mention of the name.
