Wait, wait. Only Medicaid & Medicare reimbursements are govt-negotiated rates. But it is true that those are frequently the starting point for deciding on "reasonable & customary" rates.

My friend and I were jyst talking abt this. So if the hospital charges $20 for a box if Kleenex, why would insurance pay this crazy rate?
-
Because they aren't paying the majority of the bills. 3 in 5 businesses self insured and 80% of large companies (>1000 emp.) Health insurers administrate their plans. Just like they do for Medicare/Medicaid. Govt. only pays bills. Govt. & health insurers are BFFs

They also overly complicate the billing process with ridiculous coding systems that are not standard between companies. I worked for a small doctors office, which had to have 4 full time people just to wheedle payments from what should be an automated system.
-
That's by design. Health insurers hamstring providers and patients with low tech antiquated billing & benefit processes but run circles around us with high tech efficient streamlined billing and processing systems. Slow walk us and fast track themselves.

Government already pays over half of U. S. health care costs. The reason health care and college tuition costs are so high is government participation/intervention. Classical definition of cause of inflation.

Govt. protects health insurance cos.Allows them to hide profits in complex financial reporting, consolidate & collude with each other and to gouge private sector. Hospitals wud collapse if not for private http://payors.Financial markets depend on insurance cos.

If the end consumer has no idea what is being paid to the service provider, then the ball is being hidden, and there is no chance for a functional 'free' market.

Gots to be secret bc hospitals charge $150for each bandaid.... mark up is worse than any other business service in the world. But, our Gov. knows this and thats why they need to be in the health care business. Kick backs

Govt intrusiveness into common markets always have an upward effect on costs with little comparative benefit.

What if it's not about what insurance pays, but what it doesn't? My wife's health issues easily cost six figures over 3 years. Nothing worked. We ended up paying about $5k for tests insurance wouldn't cover. Doctor found the underlying issues and treated them successfully.

Yes, and that's exactly why Government needs to stay out of our health insurance.

DIRECT PRIMARY CARE is the way to go! Like Dr Josh Umbehr of
@AtlasMD that@seanhannity has on from time to time. PS I doubt the DPC get the big bonuses for vaccines quotas. Maybe parents could go no vax without bullying.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Also, the government rates are not negotiated in secret. The commercial ones are. I can calculate what Medicaid, Medicare, will pay for any illness in any state.
