1/I believe the AMA has a tight grip on med school admissions, keeping dr #s
, while pressuring PA & NP#s under demand, as well. Even #/nurses limited when programs should be expanded, & all possible services should be moved downstream 2
costs.

2/I’m a lawyer but I also blame the medmal lawsuit crowd 4 blocking tort reform, which some studies claim could reduce national costs 2-4%.
-
3/Insurance reimbursement codes & fear/litigation both drive & incentivize unneeded procedures,
total costs. -
4/Tight govt regulations sought by AMA & others limit lower cost alternatives like telemedicine, concierge service (fixed price medical retainer fees), medical malls, & expanding services from pharmacies/other alternative providers.

Consumers need a competitive health insurance industry to help them push back on costs. Government subsidies - like Obamacare - always distort markets and push costs higher.

..& Why does insurance reimburse hospital 5x amt. they reimburse outpatient surgery centers for same procedures like colonoscopy, etc.. Why don’t insurance companies steer consumers free of complications to surgery centers to save us all $$?

Price transparency is crucial 2
costs.Fastfood restaurants required 2 show cost (&calories!), stores must have prices marked, why not medical providers, especially 4 generic services(shots, lab tests, etc )? Insurance can bargain 4 lower group rates, but @ least show baseline.

Health care has never been about the insured. It’s been about the provider getting paid.

look at the $$ motivation by American Heart Assoc to lower the threshold of high blood pressure. life insur companies can charge higher premiums and now 31 million more Americans can be pressured to start using more meds.

Healthcare was once pretty much run by local charities, govts and donors. It has been turned into a huge for-profit industry. And it should be treated as such. Take a look at the salaries of all your local "healthcare administrators", a great many of whom are not mds.

Price disclosure should be part of any reform. Name another service you agree to without a cost estimate?
-
If patients paid a percentage of the cost, instead of a copay, they would ask prices and shop around. It would increase competition which would lower costs.
