True story - My mother was hospitalized with total bills is $100K. Medicare wrote that down to a little over $10K. What's the real price?
-
-
-
Exactly. To be honest, $10K seemed too low for the care she received. Add in that her private insurance only pays off Medicare allocation.

Correct. Price transparency and consumer choice are the only way to fix it.

Free healthcare = someone else paying for it.
-
OR free healthcare = All of us sharing the cost. OR free healthcare = Those who can pay for it paying for more of it than others (e.g. Obamacare with the healthy young paying in, so later when they're old they'll pay less)
-
What right do you have to other people’s money? None!
-
But it's my money. That pot of money we call govt, paid into it too. We made that pot so we could all use it for shared things like roads, etc.
-
Again. Healthcare is not free. That was my original statement
-
Yea, I wouldn't disagree with that. I would disagree with the part about "somebody else paying for it". The narrative is always, that most people are mooching off of others. While there are always moochers, most of us I think are contributing to the pot to the best of our ability

This is exactly my complaint about in the ACA -- it does NOTHING to lower costs. It just make other people pay which in itself RAISES costs

No talk of curbing or reducing medical cost. Costs are the problem not who pays.

Retired nurse here, people don't realize costs involved in health care! In hospital, many must be paid to provide services to patients!
-
Nurses, lab techs, X-ray, aides, physical therapy, social workers, housekeeping, anesthesia, pharmacy, supplies & equipment, more!!
-
I understand, but billing system a total mess.

Why dont doctors / hospitals have to tell the price before you buy it like any other industry?
-
In theory yes. But in practice it's hard. You can't doctor shop in the ER.
-
I agree w/ that situation but lets be honest, that’s not why prices are kept secret. They dont want u 2 know they charge $28 / 2 ibuprofen
