I think folks have forgotten the difference between a reporter and a commentator - we have PLENTY of commentators, not many reporters left!

Reporters should report, not bloviate.

If there is opinion it is not "journalism" or "reporting".

Can I get an Amen? It's arrogant to assume WE want their opinion. It's further arrogant to assume their opinion is correct or worthy.

why would anyone be interested in a reporter's opinion?

I'm old enough to remember when that was the rule, not the exception. Those were the days.

Unfortunately, those days are over for most of mainstream media.

I want facts: who, what, where, when, why (and sometimes how) for straight news -- news in general -- and opinions on the editorial page.

Facts exist. When the subject of a story makes a factually incorrect statement, the reporter has a duty to correct the record. Every time.

I cannot understand your logic Sharyl? I recall Cronkite circa Feb 1968! Opinion was false and damaging.

If it is a reporter that I respect I like to hear their opinion but integrity is rare and hard to find and opinions are too often spin.

The problem is that opinion is often disguised as fact. If you don't read/listen to each sentence like a lawyer, you might be tricked.

Facts without opinion? That would be the end of Fox News.

Sharyl, if we could trust the reporter, it depends.

As long as the distinction is made. We are accustomed to hearing oppinions stated as if facts.
