I would guess that "Working the fields" implies slaves working the cotton fields. Everything is a racist trigger to these lefty elitists.

Maybe to them but not to people who-- you know, really work in the fields.
-
I agree. I don't understand their reasoning at all.

I think it's lack-of-being-in-the-heartland-syndrome

If you grew up in a rural area like me or, say in Nebraska, it is likely you have worked in the fields at some point.
-
Even I have worked in fields.
-
Yep. I did with my mother picking peppers in FL. My family has picked oranges, watermelons and worked in the packing houses.

Me too. At age 13, my first job was working in the cornfields in Nebraska.
-
Oops I think you're not allowed to say that. it's unsavory (?)
-
It wasn't back in the 70's when I trudged up and down rows of corn pulling tassels off the stalks. ;-)
-
I did that too. Ages ago.
-
Ages ago...exactly. I'm not a spring chicken anymore.

There are two types of people in this country: One KNOWS food comes from our farms, the other thinks it came from the STORE.

That we have a "superior class" that finds honest work unsavory doesn't surprise me-that they openly admit it in such a tone deaf way does.
-
Honest work? So nursing is an honest work? Teaching? Restaurant work? City jobs are honest work, too.
-
Those jobs have nothing to do w/ this-saying "field work" is honest work is only discussing field work. you are using a straw man argument

You're probably assuming a level of integrity on the part of NYT that they do not deserve.

But people do work in the fields, which is why it's called "working in the fields". The left has yet to redefine it.

The only "fields" that reporter knows is Mrs. Fields Cookies in the mall food court.
