1/This is the root of America’s deepest problem. It robs others of their experience & it ignores history. The idea that “we are fine” and rabble rousers are stirring it up. We are not fine. @SharylAttkisson you're an investigative journalist let’s investigate your theory.https://twitter.com/SharylAttkisson/status/1033868041224900608 …

And who are these most people and when did you talk to them about their lives? This is really sticking your fingers in your ears refusing to listen to people telling you that it is in fact not ok. Your response is to invoke a fantasy world that is almost as old as this nation.
-
Again, you are misunderstanding. I didn't say there are no problems or issues silly. I report on them every day. I said that most people in USA get along surprisingly well working and living side by side every day no matter their differences.
-
And what I'm saying to you is that your assertion is demonstrably false. Al laid out just a few examples of how people, especially black and brown people are living lives that are being manifestly impacted by racism. It is real for many of us even if it isn't for you.
-
*Sigh* That's not what I said.
-
"I said that most people in USA get along surprisingly well working and living side by side every day no matter their differences." This is what I am saying is flat out false.
-
Well it's not but you are free to claim it is! It's a free country.
-
Oh, it is.

I work in a small town and can promise you that while everyone gets along the issues bubble just below the surface. Is that winning?
-
In other words: you agree with my assessment.
-
...so your assessment is that everything is OK on the surface, but there's awfulness bubbling underneath?
-
She's got her White Woman glasses on and only sees how it works for us, which is mostly fine. The rest of you are apparently only random anecdotal outliers for these supposed "problems" that surely no one has looked into for her to read about because everything is fine.

The thing is, there’s still rampant segregation in practice in this country. So even if people are “getting along” with people they come in contact with, part of that is just because most of the people who come in contact with are like them. /1

Or people like yourself — white, middle aged, middle class — are happy to ignore issues and don't want to acknowledge that their own experiences may not be the same at the POC in their communities. FTR, I am also white, middle aged and middle class and you DO NOT speak for me.

Your White Privilege is showing, Sharyl.

This disparity breeds justified resentment. Out of curiosity how many communities and work places did you visit before making this generalization Sharyl? Not the America I see and I am going to bet I see more of it than you.

And most black people are not responsible for violence in cities but that is what you see in the local news. Sharyl your statement is vague and has no basis. Most people get along at work but don’t associate outside. Minorities are seldom promoted over white counterparts. 1

/2 and even if people manage to be polite when they meet each other in public, that doesn’t mean that underlying discrimination isn’t shown in studies on everything from who gets called back from blind resume submissions to sentencing results to school achievement.
