One issue I have with some polls is the questions--they sometimes ask things like: "Do you support immigration reform?" Well nobody can even agree on what that is. If all say "yes" then half might mean something diff than the other half. Also...

I disagree with our policy in Syria which has been all over the map from regime change to containment of Russia to supporting supposed pro American factions to simple bribery. We need to get the hell OUT of the Middle East and tend to our own infrastructure, economy and citizens

No. Poll questions are worded so results arrive at a pre-determined outcome.

I would like to see more analyses/discussion of poll/survey questions and their ability to actually provide information.

News is not about real. News is about perception.

One of my favorites... “is America heading in the right direction?” That’s useless.

3/3 It is similar to a lawyer’s cross examination, but the media is supposed to be reporting the facts, not spinning them. Their job is not to educate the public as to the “right way to think” it is to present the facts and let ppl come to their own conclusions.

2/3 Often, the question can be asked in a way that would just communicate the facts but people in the media feel it is necessary to “help” (ie sway) the public to come to a particular conclusion. It’s maddening!

1/2 Exactly. Most ppl do not have even a basic understanding of these issues. My problem is in the way the questions are worded, not just with polls but throughout the media. If you examine the wording of the questions, it reveals the bias of the person asking the question.

Eh, most of our politicians & diplomats couldn't accurately state what it is, and that includes most who have been implementing it over the last several years (and administrations)

I believe that all published polls should also attach their questions to the poll for complete transparency.

I feel we must allow Syrian's to return home and stop the flow into Europe. We can apply pressure for the removal of Assad at a later date but the humanitarian issues must be resolved first. If that means working with Russia fine

Ed Schultz was famous for his daily polls. It would always be a question like Do you believe Bush should be removed from office or do you believe in drowning puppies?

The way the question is asked, tells the bias of that media. Only a handful of pollers I pay any attention to.

I get calls for political polling and in a recent one my allowed responses were either “strongly agree” or “strongly disagree” where several times I answered neither, more somewhere in the middle. Their response was you have to pick one for survey integrity.
