No, because you’re terrible at discerning the distinction between nationally counted popular votes and state counted popular votes that get apportioned according to state law into electoral college votes. Pop vote =/= result of the election.

No one in this thread is arguing any different, we are discussing whether the national polls in 2016 were accurate. They were.

I just don’t see any sense in saying anything about the election, especially this far from the date the results were certified. What I take issue with is that it sounds like you and Emily are upset that Hillary lost, vicariously shirking her responsibility, instead of owning it.

It’s not even that she lost. I’m sure you can accept that. It’s that you seem to be at odds with the system our Founders set up to elect the President.

No. I support the EC—though we have had 2 elections in 20 year elected by minority vote. The EC only works because most of the time the EC and PV agree. If the current situation becomes more common, it may be time to rethink the EC. Were not there yet...but we could get there.

But if that’s the case why have the EC at all from the start —if the measure of its success is predicting popular vote? Our founders would have just let the popular vote dictate.

The EC has 2 purposes: 1) to ensure the POTUS has broad geographic support and 2) the founders did not trust the people to directly elect POTUS, the EC was meant to be a check on our impulses to elect an unqualified populist. Didn’t work this time.

The EC was never about electing a POTUS with geographic support. It was built to equalize counties with 100 people could be heard equally alongside counties with 1MM people. The Executive Office, of which POTUS os Chief Ofcr, is the perfect place for a successful CEO.

Its purpose was not to override the vote because rural people should have more power than urban people. Its purpose was to override people who elect someone inappropriate for the position.

The EC was never built to predict the popular vote. It was built to prevent a few, small, populous regions from subverting the will of the rest of the nation, or dominating policy above other, less populous, bust just as important, regions in our country.
