None of the above. We have a thing called a US Constitution

I’m so tired of elected officials doing what their sponsors ask vs what their constituents ask. Things are changing.

We elect an official to represent us. Not big money, not special interest, not themselves, but we the people

I said constituents...but in reality I think it’s a combination. Presumably he campaigned on what he believed and his constituents elected him giving him a mandate to vote his conscience. In a perfect world these two thing would be in close alignment.

I understand the argument for constituents, but that is not our system. We elect people to do what they feel is best. Always doing what constituents think is the same as pure democracy not a "representative" republic and is basically the same as doing what gets you elected.

I think it's important that a public official admit when he/she disagrees with his/her constitutants and why. I want someone who can passionately defend their position. They should be respectful and consider their constituants and not vilify them for their differences.

Tough one, because you’d like your leaders to be people of independent conscience. But ultimately, I think if a leader cannot support the wishes/needs of constituents, then he/she should step down.

Depends. Our history is replete with examples of things which the most vocal of constituents thought was "right" when really they were dead wrong. And vice versa. I don't believe all that nonsense about the wisdom of the crowd. Don't forget diffusion of responsibility, too.

What they thinks, we don't have enough information to think and it's results that count
