Debate & compromise, give & take, recognizing shared & diverse interests should be the goal of civil society. In history of the world this has never existed. It is embodied in theory in the Constitution. Sadly, the goal of too many drawn to politics is not good policy but power.

Well said.

Thanks. Words are too often not a tool by which to explain & resolve but a means by which to stir the pot, to confuse & mesmerize the desperate. I would encourage anyone who wants to better understand how mass movements work to read the classic The True Believer by Eric Hoffer.

Again. Loving what your saying. If you wrote a book I'd read it. I love words. I love language. The pen is mightier than the sword. Bless you man. You rock.

I used to believe we shouldn’t know a journalist’s political leanings and their role was that of seeking answers to questions. Sadly we all know their politics and they’re not seeking any answers (they know everything) but shouting statements.
-
Mostly agree, but there are still a few true journalists who certainly make it extremely difficult for the public to know their political leanings...but so damn few and I hope they continue to keep us guessing; we need more of that!

That's how most of us were educated back in the day! I remember being taught respectful debate of issues back in the 4th grade!!! Them days is over!!!

I sure do wish more journalist would apply that measurement when doing their stories. I truly think we would then start to see more balls and strikes and much less divisiveness.

I learn journalism at hinds jr college over thirty years ago. Never forgot the who, why, what. Most of all my professor taught me that every news story has more than one side. As I grew older I learned more about news anchors, biases etc. Stil the what, why who stayed with me

Honestly. It was a standard way of instruction. It was in any class that offered debates, how to think about things, etc.. but, again, I got my Bachelors in '74.

Reasons to tell a story to press? Public? Off the record? Did anyone go to jail over “babies thrown out of incubators?” What lengths to set that up?
