That should be a part of all education.

That was when education actually meant educating, not indoctrinating.

Had a very similar course in college many, many moons ago! Still remember the topic. I researched both sides of euthanasia. Amazing how learning facts can be so eye-opening!

That’s how we learned, and built your foundation. I was just in Alexandria VA and was greeted with this-and I only went several blocks. This is love?pic.twitter.com/CDg5kUaihG

#Antithetical to the#Liberal professors in today's halls of higher learning ... hearing the other side of an argument is a#Micro_Aggression The future for honest debate in colleges looks bleakThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

I agree, no one wants to look or research the facts and debate anymore.

I doubt they could do that in college today. Every student would have the same pro side on any issue and the con side would be Nazis. And you don't debate Nazis you kill them. That's what liberals have done to education!

I'm getting the feeling they don't do that anymore. It seems the so-called Progressives don't bother with research, they just call conservatives "Nazis" and threaten them with violence. One gets the strong impression the "progressives" don't even know what the actual Nazis did.

I had the same exercise, Sheryl. But it wasn’t like the serious stuff now, like climate change and nfl kneeling. Just the Vietnam war...

We used the Socratic Method at Pepperdine Law School. A professor would never guide you but ask you questions and make you defend your position. Also, during finals, each student was assigned a number, did not use our names, so they did not who's test they were grading.

I did the same with my 7th grade students, some were immigrants, some not, had them research pros/cons, made for a lively debate, took some out of comfort zone, gratifying letting them think on their own.

I have often thought this is exactly what students should do. If nothing else, "steel-manning" the counter-argument helps you better make the case for your own view.
