When we first moved to fla. we used to swim in lakes, until an alligator came up about 15ft away from me. I had no clue they were pretty much anywhere there is water.
-
Yes. It's the first thing out of towners should be told.

My 90+ great grandmother always liked a morning swim beyond the breakers on Anna Maria. She always said no need to worry about sharks if the porpoises are around ...
-
That's a fact.

Is this a trick question? I am guessing it's NOT a municipality.

I have a technique for avoiding shark attack. Simply position yourself (X) in geometric center of a square of fellow bathers (Y): (Y) (Y) (X) (Y) (Y) shoreline>>>>>>>>>>

But it's a 3D world under the surface, Captain.
-
A fair point. My method has not been fully tested empirically. Anecdotally, however, I have never been bitten by a shark.
-
There is safety in numbers. The more people in the water in the immediate vicinity when a shark attack occurs, the less likely you are the one on the menu.

The Tiger shark caught in “Jaws” was caught off Siesta Key.

I hate to break this to you, but that was over 40 years ago.

I watched Jaws on TV last night.

Not only are all old, but we all stay home on Saturday night and watch movies we've seen a dozen times. Life in 21at century.

You grew up in Sarasota? My mom managed “The Boatyard” and I went to school at The Out of Door Academy.

We too used to swim at night all the time until we saw Jaws. Does anyone else remember the phosphorous in the water at night? Very cool - I’d love to see it again but I’m not going in with the sharks!
