I was just telling someone how we used to swim at night in Sarasota until Jaws--when we learned the sharks pass at "Midnight Pass" at night. It changed everything. #NotAToeInTheWaterAfterDark Rumor was they caught one of the real sharks seen in Jaws there.https://twitter.com/pburchins/status/1011059592434999297 …

In the 70’s, there were tanks behind the Dunes on the beach at Midnight Pass. We used beach the boat enjoy the day swimming, water skiing and relaxing. One day, we watched them pull a big shark out of the water. Then the movie Jaws and we learned all about Mote Marine! LOL

When we first moved to fla. we used to swim in lakes, until an alligator came up about 15ft away from me. I had no clue they were pretty much anywhere there is water.

Is this a trick question? I am guessing it's NOT a municipality.

I have a technique for avoiding shark attack. Simply position yourself (X) in geometric center of a square of fellow bathers (Y): (Y) (Y) (X) (Y) (Y) shoreline>>>>>>>>>>

A fair point. My method has not been fully tested empirically. Anecdotally, however, I have never been bitten by a shark.

There is safety in numbers. The more people in the water in the immediate vicinity when a shark attack occurs, the less likely you are the one on the menu.

We too used to swim at night all the time until we saw Jaws. Does anyone else remember the phosphorous in the water at night? Very cool - I’d love to see it again but I’m not going in with the sharks!
