Love my phone, my kids love theirs. But the phones changed the dynamics in our family. Wait as long as you can to add a phone for your children.

So true. Parents of graduated students should go to PTA meetings at elementary schools outside their own districts to share these thoughts. I’m willing to bet most parents of screen junkies would agree. anonymity help the message because there is less judgement .

You can't fight progress. Every generation is introduced to new technology, ideas, and invention that changes culture for better & worse. These kids will grow up and fret over whether or not their kids should use holograms and virtual reality.

I'm 62 and was forever setting the clock on my moms VCR. My son was showing me things on the computer when he was 15, and when I have a cell phone question, it goes to my 13 y/o granddaughter. We all wondered, "is it good"? Every generation has its "vcr clock".

I don't think too much time on social media is good for children for a variety of reasons. I'm not too sure it's good for me either.

The device is nothing more than a tool. If you use it appropriately then they are great. If not, then they are a problem. It’s not unlike any other tool we use in our everyday lives.

I'm sorry. I've got to say that smart phones aren't much good for ANYONE unless used with more than a modicum of restraint.

Like anything moderation. Rules to the age and maturity of the child. Same with picking the technology. On other words you be the parent and not their buddy, just because Johnny folk are one way does not mean I will be.

Children do not need to be exposed to technology until they are at least five years old. Smart phones - not until 18 to limit access to social media.

It's a double sided sword on this question. For school it gives the kids access to the internet to do school work during the day when they can't use the school Wi-Fi because the network is under sized. For home games and social media are no good for the kids.

They are mini-computers; not really "phones." Any access to information is a good thing. Like any tool; it's how it's used that dictates how good or detrimental it is.

iPhone usage ruins children’s social skills and their zest for adventure outdoors both of which are essential to a well adjusted child! And Why in the world would school systems allow the usage of iPhones during school classes?!

They're awful devices, in every way. Always-on mic/camera/and location beacons. Convenience is a sham. They steal privacy, security, time, and brain power. They are toys that shoehorn digital addictions into your life. Commercialized horror show.https://twitter.com/dotMudge/status/1003061207396421632 …
