Langston Hughes was the first black literary writer I’d ever been assigned. I didn’t read Sula until I was 21 — not sure I was mature enough in high school to deeply understand it. Going to order your book — very into the subject because my own research takes place in nearby counties (Liberty and McIntosh). Have read the contemporaneous accounts.
