In exchange for all of the above we get: - worker schedule flexibility - people who are not serviced by transit or taxi can get transportation easier - transportation predictability This isn’t a good trade. We should find other ways to solve for these problems.

I remember the think pieces back in the day from people who said it was cheaper to Uber than own a car. This clearly made no sense: how does lengthening the trip (driving to pickup) and adding additional human labor = cheaper without some sort of subsidy?

If ridehailing can not cover the cost of its negative externalities I fear our public transit systems will continue to fall far short of what is needed. We need to solve for our problems.

Btw I have family, friends & followers who drive/work/invest in Uber/Lyft. Please do not feel judged. I am calling the problem as I see it, but I do not think any less of you as a person. It would be wonderful if these companies could help identify and build real solutions.

Way more people take Lyft/Uber to my business than Muni bc it is so slow and unreliable. It needs to be faster to get across town. I’ve literally walked from the Inner Sunset to Ocean Beach on multiple occasions without a Muni ever passing. Not sure this is a ride share problem.

Understandably people switch to ridehailing when speed and predictability are needed, but it perpetuates a vicious cycle of reduced riders for public transit, which has to scale back service. With no competition ridehailing fares go up, and then we have no cheap transport at all.

I could do without Uber and Lyft drivers parking in the bike lane.

I could do without them no matter where they park. No offense to uber/lyft drivers
