Can you persuade people into spirituality? You can: teach it, exemplify it, or recast it as something people might want (without using the word spirit).

We like to reduce and categorize adult relationships as romance, friendship, or colleague. Friendship is culturally devalued here. But perhaps more important, there are 100 types of healthy adult relationship. Is this idea developed somewhere? Transactional psychology maybe?

I suddenly wonder whether the grandiosity of last century's psychological stage models is responsible—along with the quantitative turn—for the piecemeal approach of today's academic psychology. I criticize stage models a lot, but I don't find the piecemeal approach overly helpful

Half my Twitter bubble practices spirituality and the other half studies it in social psychology. Not enough overlap. Both camps have plenty to learn from the other. Research AND practice.

Epicurus lived in a big house with all his friends. Can we talk more about him than the Stoics, please? 🧡

Dialectical thinking is better than hierarchical thinking. Oh no, that's hierarchical thinking!

Anyone who works in a knowledge-producing industry should also explore personal development. If you can't confront your own neuroses, biases, and blindspots, how can you tell others what to do? Very confusing. How do we institute an authoritarian requirement that helps people?

I would guess that about 90% of cognitive biases could be cured or ameliorated if we simply understood that the normal distribution applies to ourselves and others. Solution: statistical spirituality?

If you don't include the idea of mutation in your concept of evolution, your view will be overly optimistic and only half the picture.

This was the first book I read that inspired me to be a generalist. Obviously I can't be a Renaissance Man. Calling yourself a polymath is arrogant. However, the word generalist sounds a bit self deprecating. How about inclusionist?

People love Spock and Data—two people who supposedly have no emotions. Do we prefer non-humans? But as the characters are written, Spock is in deep denial, and Data has the greatest ambition of all: to become human.
