It's both. Herd immunity existed long before vaccines, it's just that sensible countries only do herd immunity through vaccines these days. I'll take inoculation over infection any day!

It's both. Vaccination simulates the disease to provide immunity. But there is no evidence that you are immune to this one after you've had it. In fact there is anecdotal evidence from China that you can get it again.
