Here's the math, for those who love (or hate) city budgets:

Avg. speaker's discretionary funding for no votes: $2,855,000 / 17 = $167,941 Avg. speaker's discretionary funding for yes votes: $11,004,340 / 30 = $366,811

By discretionary funding, I mean items in the Speaker’s Initiative to Address Citywide Needs + items in Appendix B to Schedule C of this year’s budget—ones in which the speaker was listed alongside a member’s name.

The smallest allocations went to Reynoso, who got $350,000, Rivera and Rosenthal, $225,000 each; Lander, $125,000 and Menchaca, $0.

At the other end of the spectrum, Adams got $21,697,000; Treyger, $18,395,000; Cumbo, $16,025,000; Cohen, $13,469,500; and Chin, $11,213,000.

NB: I didn’t count Johnson’s allocations in which more than one member was listed (whom to credit in those cases?). This resulted in slightly lower totals for both yes and no votes.

Johnson’s office rejected my analysis, saying it excluded funding that no votes requested and received, e.g., $11.9 million for libraries that Van Bramer requested. But their examples weren’t speaker allocations and I stand by my numbers.

Wow this is a powerful exposé, and totally damning of
@NYCSpeakerCoJo, who is taking a page out of Trump’s playbook for this one. Basically taking a bat to the knees of every council member who tried to#DefundNYPD. We voters won’t forget this, and we are organizing. -
agree with your spirit Jon but this is by no means The Trump Playbook! This is a shitty bi-partisan playbook that has been referred to by careerist politicians whose ambitions exceed any values they once purported to have since the history of american party politics
