Very excited to share a new Perspective I wrote for - “Are hormones a ‘female problem’ for animal research?” - in which I explore the historical basis for many scientists' inaccurate perception that data from female animals will be “messy"

Lab ice skating send off for our inimitable tech Jordan. Jordan learned cell filling, confocal microscopy, and 3D structural analysis from scratch and was absolutely integral to the progress of the lab over the last 2 years. We’ll miss you, Jordan!

Bruce’s article from his 2018 festschrift 2018 is open. It’s a lovely view into his thoughts on the many influences of stress (incl a new collab with his brother) Redefining neuroendocrinology: Epigenetics of brain-body communication over the life course

Remember our first SFN networking workshop and we realized everyone on the panel (but me) had worked with Bruce? And the clear conclusion was that the optimal networking and success strategy was time in his lab 🤣😢 Such a loss.

(2/2) I remember sitting there watching talk after talk from his former trainees, and it really was so striking. Bruce created a deep legacy of truly exceptional neuroanatomists and in the moment, when my own future was so uncertain, I just felt lucky to be there.

Devastated at the loss of my postdoc mentor, Bruce McEwen. He was, to put it plainly, a once-in-a-lifetime person—unwaveringly kind, creative, and brilliant. He was the kind of scientist who made you want to be a better one. At his Festschrift a few years ago (1/2)

Devastated to report that my mentor & friend Bruce McEwen has passed away. He was the best of us: a fantastic scientist, super collaborator with encyclopedia-like knowledge of hormones & the brain Special issue in FIN (2018) as an ode to Bruce & his work: .

It’s really amazing to me that such a huge bias that would knowingly skew research outcomes would be allowed to persist in the biomedical research community for so long.
