@danielg0ldberg @ShamsJorjani Just listened to S01E02.I'm a Linux user and Paradox has been a bastion of Linux support, both for your developed games and those you publish. Please continue it!If Valve ever sold out to MS,I'd be very concerned that they'd try to kill Linux support.
-
-
That's sad to hear and I hope it doesn't result in support being dropped. Do you get live data about the OS a user plays on, or just Steam info from point of sale? I believe Humble Bundle data shows that Linux users spend more per transaction than MS/Mac,but there are less users
-
You asked previously about what would get someone to pay £4.99/month sub for no received game. If I had to, I'd pay that just as a subsidy to keep Linux development alive, on top of the game purchases I make.
-
That's cool. Issue with Linux isnt only the initial cost. But nthe added overhead of maintaining one more platform. Same effort could be made to add the game on God or whatever other platform that undoubtedly would reach a bigger audience.
-
I'm also a more niche Linux than most I guess, as I use Arch with i3 as my window manager, on a 2007 CPU and a 2011 GPU. Probably not your typical customer! Does Vulkan reduce your future crossplatform development complexities at all? Not sure how it fits with your current engine
-
AFAIK Vulkan helps with rendering which usually isn't the bottleneck for us. But all help is appreciated.
-
You also mentioned the Paradox Launcher in development. I know it's still not out for Linux yet. If it were, I'd happily buy your games directly through there from you, especially if that means you get the full revenue.
-
You're also the only company I pre-order from and pay full price for rather than deliberately waiting for sales. In short: Paradox Interactive, you're my only hope! If the May announcement is Victoria III with Linux support, I'll probably cry with joy.

I'm a Linux user , but i tend to buy on a windows PC I'm sure there are a lot like me.
-
Which makes you part of the problem. Congrats.
-
Lets be fair here, the problems are: Microsoft's Hegemony Steams Metrics for Linux user Measurement Some Linux Games Multi-monitor support putting the game on the left screen no matter what i do :-(
-
feel free to expand on how you feel Steams metrics could be improved.
-
User is logged in on Linux and in windows , user buys game that is Linux compatible , that's a sale for Linux, because of the potential or actual Linux use - this would give a more accurate view of the games Linux user base !
-
Steam updates the status of the owner to whatever OS they've been playing on if it exceeds certain thresholds. Is the claim that there are large number unreported linux buyers? The issue is also - even if one was to drop ALL linux support we wouldn't lose ALL of those sales?
-
I took the hard decision to not use Windows whatsoever. Even if that means cutting off a lot of games and other software. I do have WINE but it has been probably 2 years+ since I used it. And I use Arch+i3 and have never noticed multi-display issues as I strictly define my config
-
You have to cut the cord at some point. That's what these dual-booters do not get. You'll ALWAYS go back.

It has been over 16 months since you released a game on linux. I personally don't care for buying new dlc every month, especially when i'm used to "definitive editions" being released for reasonable prices, looks like that isn't the case for paradox games though.
-
Yeah - definitive versions is oxymoron with our games. We're never done adding new features, content and fixes.
-
I advise listening to the podcast Shams and Daniel talk in detail about why they have the model they do. I hear a lot of hate on their DLC, but I don't really understand it. Their system gives me games I can enjoy for years, rather than crappy sequel releases every 1-2 years

Your games are a lovely niche among the best niche software on earth, what do you expect? Also I bet those DLC sells are slightly more stable on Linux. Remember that in the past people used to make games for fun first of all. If you are in mostly for money get a MS cert.
-
we happen to think that the best way to make a lot of money is to make great games. It has worked fine so far :)
-
Yes it has indeed. The only company I pre-order from and pay full price for. You're the only ones with that level of trust for me, regardless of the OS. I remember back when you started on Linux and some optimisation issue in CKII had my CPU nearly achieve nuclear fusion haha
