Diversity and inclusion in Infosec? When my male colleagues decide to spend the evening in a strip club (and invite me to join, because they are considerate!), I know it's still a boys club, and there's still a long way ahead of us. True story from re:invent 2019

Happens at every Defcon too. I’m all for strip clubs, & sex work is work, but I don’t want do professional networking in that environment. Obvious exception being if I were a sex worker. Hosting events at strip clubs is a transparent move to exclude gender diversity.

(2of2) diversity & inclusion is a 360 degree strategy for every human in an org. Understanding ALL dimensions is critical to an orgs DE&I strategy. Examples: holiday parties; represent all denominations or just one? Team outings represent the interests of all involved? Stay

Also, making it accessible for those w/physical limitations. The # of required “team bonding” events that include physical activities is astounding. Many people “don’t look disabled”. Don’t make the physical stuff required. (Bowling, escape rooms if people use mobility aids, etc)

When I have gone to conferences I have been invited out as well. (I am a guy). If I say I am just going to hit a bar and then go detox in my room I get no end of shit for it. I dont want to go.. why is this an issue. Nope. I cant imagine being a female in this situation.

I have had to do presales and ended up in strip bars, not particularly interested in it myself. Worse, also been unknowingly taken to brothels (just following the group), when I realised it wasn't just another bar I excused myself, saying it is late and needed to rest.

Has there been any woman in tech that haven't been invited to a strip club by their male co-workers? Not me. It's happened a bunch. I went once and still hate myself for it.

I think the key here is that people need to realise what's appropriate in a work context and what's appropriate for adult socialising. That is to say that strip clubs don't have to be inherently sleazy.
