As violence has escalated, so has harm to civilians. Entire villages & communities are displaced. People are in mourning AND have to be on the move. Additionally, ongoing violence makes it harder to fully document & verify civilian losses.

Afghans on both sides, Taliban & Republic, could be taking steps to stop the suffering. Taliban are primarily responsible for the harm by not agreeing to a ceasefire & meaningful talks. Republic is struggling to exhibit much needed unity & cohesion.

There is talk of commitment to Afghans from international community, yet confusing signals are sent to Afghan public every day. As always, priority & messaging is for domestic populations, but there needs to a real acknowledgement of responsibility towards this war &the suffering

Afghans r dying in war every day. Both sides are focused on making "progress" in the battlefield. If this goes on, tactics will get uglier & violations WILL increase. The world seems resigned to this. That is not acceptable. The world, including the UN, needs to do more & better.

Local and people who live under the Taliban control area know that They (Taliban) force locals elders to do their dirty work for them. In Helmand was the same, elders approached the government for the release of Taliban prisoners or fight their psychological warfare.
