Every week, someone I know is leaving Afg. This includes human rights defenders, journalists, women’s rights activists, civil society activists. They are the ones who stayed after peaceful protests were blown up, universities were attacked, hospitals were targeted,
Some of them have personally survived one & more attacks before, & yet now, when d peace process should bring renewed hope, they are threatened & are forced to leave the country. The targeted killings r sending the message that there is no future for them here, not anytime soon
A country is poorer without its activists, path-breakers & advocates. The brave women who overcame countless barriers to shine in Afg are now seeing no space here. What will our society be without these pioneers? How can this be a “peace” process if it is causing fear & despair?
For the “peace” process to be seen as credible, we need a ceasefire & a real possibility of public engagement. We need to be able to organize rallies without fear across Afg to give the public a voice. We need to be able to come together & debate. The current violence can’t go on
