How would you define “advance”? What advance is needed to stop the bloodshed beyond steps that have been taken so far including the prisoner exchange & start of direct negotiations?

A tangible advance comes when the 2 teams agree on a change of constitution and after that elect an administration in which the taliban and the afghan will have their shares. There will be war until this administration is in power.
