I had my first trip ever to Paktia to visit @AfghanistanIHRC zone office in Gardez today. @AfghanistanIHRC has 14 zone & provincial offices, including Kabul, & we own the buildings 4 many of d offices, thanks 2 the foresight & hard work of d former leadership.

@AfghanistanIHRC Gardez office was set up to cover Paktia, Paktika & Khost. With increased insecurity, we have limited access. In Gardez, we were welcomed with generosity & warmth by colleagues, civil society & local government leadership. Discussions were frank & concise, there was shared recognition of human rights issues & a spirit of collaboration to overcome them.pic.twitter.com/sB0fUMXT2D

I came back from d short trip energized. Every trip is a reminder of the diversity of Af, the importance of recognizing local priorities & investing on local solutions. Human rights are universal, but every community has its own unique challenges & strategies & language 4 rights.
